INTERAOPERATIVE
NEUROLOGICAL MONITORING
_______________________________________________________
All
surgical procedures involve risk. The risks associated
with complex Spinal, Vascular, Neurological, and (ENT) Otolaryngologic
surgeries can involve paresthesia, paralysis, stroke, and death.
Because these risks can have such a dramatic impact on a patient's
life, many surgeons choose to utilize the added safety measure
of (IONM) Intraoperative Neurological Monitoring.
(IONM)
Intraoperative Neurological Monitoring is a means of assessing
a patient's neurological function during surgical procedures.
The primary goal of (IONM) Intraoperative Neurological Monitoring
is to detect preventable neurological injuries as they evolve so
that the surgical team can take direct counter-measures to prevent
permanent injury to those structures put at risk.
